Safety Tags

A safety tag is a physical tag that is displayed on a piece of equipment, machinery or other workplace items. Safety tags often communicate important safety information and can serve as an in-field decision-making tool under certain circumstances. They are used to indicate that equipment is in need of maintenance, repair, or that it should not be used for any reason to ensure the safety of workers and prevent accidents.

Safety tags may include various information, such as the date and reason for the tag, contact information for the supervisor or maintenance personnel in charge of the equipment, and details about why the system is out of service or non-operational.

Typically, safety tags are brightly colored and contain easy-to-read language or symbols that are easily visible in the field. Usually, a lock is used to secure it on the equipment, which indicates that the equipment needs repair or maintenance, and no one should use it until it is fixed or tested. Safety tags are a visual aid in creating an awareness culture about the importance of safety compliance in industrial settings.

Safety Tags Questions & Answers

How durable are Idesco Safety Tags?

We have 3 standard types of safety tags: Classic Industrial, All Plastic, and Sturdy Cardboard. The Classic Industrial Safety Tags are extremely rugged and consist of a durable paper stock which is then rigid laminated, with an overall thickness of 30 pt. This is approximately the same thickness as most credit cards. These tags set the standard for the Lockout/Tagout industry and are the heaviest and most durable option available on the market. The All Plastic safety tags are made of plastic (vinyl) and are 12.5 pt thick, similar to most plastic wallet calendar cards. These tags are economical and lighter gauge, but still satisfy the OSHA 1910.147 requirement of 50 lbs pull test when the metal eyelet is used. Our Sturdy Cardboard safety tags are paper card stock only, and are 13 pt total thickness. Cardboard tags are for short term use or indoor use only.

What is the normal turnaround for Idesco Safety Tags?

Most of our standard Safety Tags are in stock, ready for immediate shipment! Custom tags may ship as quickly as needed, usually in just a few days. Our job is to keep you safe - tell us what turnaround you need, and we will make it happen!

What are Idesco Safety Q-Tags® and how heavy are they?

Q-Tags® are Sturdy Cardboard tags that come with safety-tag shaped rigid laminating pouches. Use an Idesco brand (or other) desk-top lamination machine to turn paper tags into durable Lockout/Tagout safety tags. Q-Tags® are the perfect solution if you want to write on a safety tag, apply a photo, or personalize it in any manner you’d like, and then laminate it to protect it, with gloss or matte lamination. Sold in packs of 100, these tags are versatile, durable, and economical, and satisfy OSHA’s 1910.147 Lockout/Tagout requirements.

Is it possible to write on Idesco Safety Tags and then erase and reuse them?

All of our Safety Tags come standard with a writeable matte finish which allows the user to make pencil notations and then erase and reuse the tags in like-new condition.

What type of grommets are used on Idesco Safety Tags?

Our Classic Industrial and All Plastic Safety Tags each have the industry’s strongest and most durable zinc metal grommets with 3/8” hole. Brass grommets are also available. These large grommets will allow you to slip the tag onto your 1/4" hasp lockout or padlock, and the extra-large metal flanges on both sides provide additional pull-strength. Also available are 1/4" eyelets and fiber patches.

Will the Idesco Safety Tags hold up outdoors or in harsh environments?

Our Classic Industrial Safety Tags are designed for indoor and outdoor use and are resistant to most solvents, chemicals, and the rigors of the most demanding industrial environments. The printing is completely protected inside rigid plastic, sealed from all external elements. Our printing and the rigid plastic are treated with UV-resistant coatings to reduce the risk of fading and to extend the life expectancy of Safety Tags that are used outdoors and in extremely sunny conditions. Our All Plastic Safety Tags also hold up in rugged environments, although they are better suited to indoor use. Idesco Safety Tags satisfy CFR 1910.150 Signs and Tags designations for color, tag size, lettering size and tag shape.

Does Idesco Safety make Custom Safety Tags?

We provide Custom Safety Tags to manufacturers and distributors around the world. Custom Safety Tags are tailored to your particular purpose. They may include specific materials and custom designs, special warnings or headlines of your choice, corporate logos, and these may be of any color, shape, or size.

Our Custom Safety Tags may also be personalized for each of your operators, or consecutively numbered for inventory and staff controls. Certain materials may also be perforated so you can tear off a unique identifier and keep a record in the office of all the Safety Tags being used in the field.
