Padlocks Keep You Safe

Padlocks are portable locks used to safeguard or lock out equipment, machinery, switches, doors and other workplace hazards.  They are used to protect property from theft, vandalism, sabotage, unauthorized use and accidental harm. Most padlocks are designed to protect against some degree of forced and surreptitious entry. Padlocks are an economical way to secure private or valuable items, at work or at home.

Idesco Safety supplies a large selection of padlocks with different designs and styles to choose from depending upon the type of security you need.

Made from solid or alloyed steel, Idesco Safety padlocks are built to withstand the most rugged environments and possible forced access. While brass is an excellent material for resisting weather, rust, chemicals, and other environmental hazards, hardened steel or alloy padlocks are tough metals that may better withstand prying or cutting.

Steel or alloy padlocks may be covered with specially fitted plastic casings especially our Clear and Color-Coded Padlock Sleeves to help protect them from damaging elements.

Aside from the differences in the materials used to produce manufacture padlocks, there are also differences in the construction of locking mechanisms. Combination padlocks are available with a dial design, or a thumb-rolled number pad on the side or the bottom of the lock. You can a choose combination padlock that comes with a fixed combination, or a padlock that allow you to choose your own numbers. The latter is often re-settable, so you can change your combination at any time.

Padlocks that include keys have the same basic structure as do combination locks. These safety devices have a shackle, the hooked part at the top that slides through a chain or a clasp before slipping inside the body of the lock to secure it, and a base. Keyed locks feature a keyhole at the bottom of the base instead of a dial or digital number pad. Keyed locks come with two keys so one can be placed in a safe location in case the other is lost, or one can be given to another person who needs access to the locked area or item.

Combination padlocks that also allow key access are perfect for kids who want to lock their lockers at school or chain and lock their bikes. A key can be useful if you should forget the combination to your padlock. It is a good idea to write down the combination in a secure place at home and keep it with the extra key as a precaution.
